In The Lazy Genius Way, Adachi teaches us “how to build a system, how to create a structure and rhythm around what matters” (pg. 109). Although this system might contradict what other gurus teach, the logic behind it makes so much sense and can be easily summed up: your system (or routine, or whatever) should be based on what matters to you.
Although Adachi likely could have hounded us on that principal over and over, she instead elaborated and then broke down each idea in an easy to read, easy to understand format.
The book is about how to be a genius, but in a lazy way so that it isn’t overwhelming or unproductive. Each tool in this system of being a lazy genius helps guide this principal, and helps us selectively choose what we focus on and what we ignore.
With tools like “ask the magic question” (principal #3) or “set house rules” (principal #6), we can reduce or eliminate overwhelm by finding the freedom to stop caring what other people are doing (or think we should be doing) and live our own normal.
Although admittedly one of very few books finished so far this year, it speaks volumes that I found the time to finish reading it while caring for a newborn. It also went on my “favorites” shelf, and in my shopping cart to purchase my own copy (the one I read was borrowed).
With that being said, I highly recommend this book to those trying to balance what they “should” be doing with what they want to be doing. It only ends in exhaustion and overwhelm, and doesn’t lead anywhere good. Enter: The Lazy Genius Way… your guide out of that mess!
After reading The Lazy Genius Way, try reading Hello Mornings by Kat Lee. With a three-minute morning routine to try, very practical takeaways, and plenty of scripture, you can continue the natural progression of this journey.
