Morning meds and I have always been on the struggle bus. Well, until a few months ago, when the light at the end of the tunnel appeared… if only nighttime meds had just as easy of a solution.
Although I really don’t like taking medication, it CHANGED my life. As in, no more hospitalizations, much more stability, the ability to have a family (I.E. trust myself to go down that road at all). When you see THAT kind of benefit from medication, you are going to find a way to be consistent.
This is important info, so I’m not going to make you hunt for it.
Each night before bed, I fill a large water bottle up with water. Personally I like a leak proof bottle, because my cat and two dogs sleep in my room, but you do you. After taking my nighttime meds, I set the bottle on my desk, and there it stays until I take my morning meds the next day.
To be clear, I DO get water sometimes during the night, or before taking my morning meds. But in that situation, the bottle goes right back on the desk until the original goal is accomplished. So every time I’m thirsty, I have to go hunt for my bottle (on my desk) and that is my reminder that I haven’t taken meds yet.
This trick is really simple, and it works because that’s the ONLY water bottle I use that day. I don’t go get another cup or bottle when I’m thirsty – I take the time to go hunt down the bottle on my desk. Each time I get thirsty, it’s a reminder.
As a bonus, it also helps (not as much, but somewhat) with taking evening meds… because I have to bring a bottle to the room with me each night in order to have it sitting on my desk in the morning.
You can put it anywhere that is a visual reminder, but more out of the way, so you have to hunt for it if you get thirsty. That’s part of the process!! After you take meds, you can take your water wherever you want (within reason – don’t get weird on me).
So. Do you have a trick for nighttime meds? I’m all ears!! Let me know in the comments below!
