When someone says they are “eating healthy” it makes one wonder what they *actually* mean – because healthy takes on so many definitions and looks so different from lifestyle choice to diet. Just to be clear, however, in this particular instance both Trim Healthy Mama (THM) and “healthy eating” are healthful, only THM is more specific to the TYPE of healthy eating. While it might be goodbye Trim Healthy Mama – for now – this article explains why (and what the future may hold).
You can definitely eat healthy without doing Trim Healthy Mama – and I would argue that you could do Trim Healthy Mama and NOT be eating healthy, as well (i.e. overdoing personal choice items or eating lots of heavy S meals….).
Is this Goodbye Trim Healthy Mama?
I’ve considered myself a Trim Healthy Mama for about eight years or so… and saying goodbye isn’t easy. Honestly, I’d rather circumstances be that I’m taking a break due to all of the changes coming the THM way these days (like GLP-1), but that wouldn’t be accurate.
What *would* be more accurate is that this may not be goodbye – just a break of sorts – and that I’m still planning on eating healthy, just not necessarily in the form of S meals and E meals and crossovers.
Truly, things have been headed this way for awhile.
My weight has been skyrocketing due to a medication I have to take to remain stable and sane, and as my OB-GYN puts it, “what worked for you ten years ago [to lose weight] won’t necessarily work now” (due to body and hormone changes).
What Does Goodbye Look Like?
THM and I aren’t through. But for now, I plan on doing my best to make healthy choices, implementing Glucose Goddess hacks, and trying THM again later when I’m more able to separate fuels (without making two meals or losing my mind).
It’s been difficult to stick with THM since going dairy free, which is a huge part of the struggle – so hopefully once I adapt (or THM publishes a dairy free cookbook), I’ll be back.
Isn’t Trim Healthy Mama Good at Adaptation?
So… what happened to changing the way you eat to fit your body’s needs in stage it’s in? Isn’t Trim Healthy Mama all about adapting to fit you?
Yes. And also no.
Trim Healthy Mama is VERY flexible. Think pulling back S meals when you are struggling to lose weight, or doing a one week fuel cycle, or eating more E meals if that suits your body better.
However, Trim Healthy Mama includes (as I and many before me have discovered) a lot of dairy. And it’s hard to get around that (at the moment). As mentioned, THM has changed a lot since I first became one!
I could definitely freestyle more, make more of my own recipes or tweak existing recipes to be dairy free, or just eat more E meals. But with a large group to feed (and two of the adults are very picky eaters) it’s more stress at this point…. and more rules (instead of more freedom) *might* help me shed some of that stubborn weight before I come back to Trim Healthy Mama.
Recipes on All Behind A Smile
So with that being addressed, recipes on this site may not stay *only* Trim Healthy Mama recipes. They will still be healthy, but that might look like more crossovers (for those on THM) and less S or E focused recipes.
