The world is full of possibility when you wake up at three a.m. … especially when it wasn’t someone else waking you. Wonderful things (like this coffee caramel sauce) can be born, especially after that first steaming cup of coffee.
Hey – just because I woke up naturally doesn’t mean I don’t want my morning cuppa joe!
In fact, while you are making your morning coffee, make a little extra. Maybe as much as a 1/2 c extra … because you are going to want to double this recipe.
Not wanting coffee? How about a Sugar Free Vanilla Chai Tea Latte that is super simple and only takes a few minutes? Bonus: it’s dairy free, too.
I have so many ideas for how this decadent coffee caramel sauce can be used … but for now I’ll simply say it’s just about drinkable and let you decide how to use it.
One of the best parts of this sauce (other than the rich coffee flavor) is how quick it is to make. In about five minutes you can be enjoying coffee caramel sauce in your kitchen too. Not only is it a bit of extra pick me up in the morning from the caffeine – although you could use decaf coffee, just be sure to make it extra strong – but it smells like promise.
So what does promise smell like, exactly? It smells like an unhurried morning with the coffee brewing and potential in the air. (Although personal opinions of the smell of promise may differ).
Although this delicious sauce was created when I woke up at three a.m., the recipe itself latched onto my brain the previous night.
I had made two mug cakes (one for my husband and one for me) topped with a different kind of caramel. The caramel itself had got me thinking. I hadn’t had the right ingredients, so I’d used a bit of this and a little of that … and it turned out good, but not quite what I’d hoped.
My gears were turning.
What if …
Soon “what if …” became a recipe idea (one I’d had in the past, but hadn’t had success implementing). I went to bed excited, and the rest is history!
What are you waiting for? I’ve waxed poetic enough. Go make this sauce!
