With Singh’s refreshing no-nonsense tone and blunt honesty, How to Be a Bawse offers great motivation to take a closer look at yourself and change what you don’t like.
The comics were amusing, and the images for each chapter helped bring the book to life. How to Be a Bawse is a book to re-read over and over again – not just for inspiration, but for a reminder to take a hard look at yourself before pointing fingers in any other direction.
This is a book you want to sit and read until it’s over, and then briefly consider flipping back to the beginning to read it again – just to soak up all of the tidbits of wisdom you might have missed the first time. Definitely a book worthy of re-reading later, regardless.
Despite the fact that the “Out of the Blue” portions were not as often as I would have liked (I’m greedy and wanted a deeper peek at Singh’s life and transition out of depression) I really enjoyed the snippets we did get.
With those sections, Singh shows us that the sadness doesn’t necessarily last forever. The hard places in life can transform, and our perspective may not always be a negative one.
The author I most want to compare Singh’s style of writing to is Rachel Hollis of Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing – but both Hollis and Singh clearly have their own unique voices and other than the self-help/memoir style, they aren’t very similar.
With that being said, however, I would still recommend Hollis if you enjoyed How to Be a Bawse – because if they wrote in a similar vein (they don’t) it would get boring fast.
I’ve already recommended How to Be a Bawse to a few other readers in my life, and still others shouldn’t be surprised if it pops up wrapped in pretty paper around Christmas time.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to people who genuinely want to conquer their life, but have no idea where to start. Singh offers great guidance, and comes across as a refreshing voice while inspiring the reader.
