Love is in the air. Or, you know, Lysol.
It’s Valentine’s day, and I couldn’t post on the actual day without sitting up and taking notice.
That is, noticing how many people are suffering this Valentine’s Day. Each situation is different; maybe they were widowed, or single, or separated. Regardless, most of the focus is on couples each Valentine’s Day.
But those who aren’t in a relationship shouldn’t be left out either.
Valentine’s Day should be about so much more than couples making out under the stars and all that jazz (not that I’m opposed … quite the contrary).
However, if Valentine’s Day is (semi) about love, then we shouldn’t forget that there is more to love than the love between a couple. For starters, there is self-love. And that, my lovely, is where we will begin.
If you’re in a relationship, it’s still okay to skip the chocolate and flowers and show yourself some love!
Instead of gifts each year, my husband and I plan a meaningful activity for us to do together … and sometimes usually this is as simple as a board game and some homemade kombucha, or video games and a drink to share!
Being in a relationship shouldn’t mean you start neglecting yourself – time to be on your own and caring for your personal needs is just as important as it ever was. Don’t forget that!
How are you celebrating self-love this Valentine’s Day?
