When the weather starts cooling off is when most people start looking to comforting drinks like warm cider. It may not be as much of a “must” here in Florida where the weather only gets nippy, but this strong mulled apple cider is a delicious refined sugar-free treat regardless.
Even better, this THM E cider has no special ingredients!
Mulling Spices:
Some of you may read that statement and look at the ingredient list twice, but I suppose it really depends on where you are located. Every ingredient was purchased in-store. The only “special” store was World Market, for the mulling spices, but they are available at other stores as well – or you could make your own blend.
The ingredients in the mulling spice blend are cinnamon, orange peel, star anise, allspice, cardamom and cloves. Just make sure the blend (if purchased pre-mixed) is sugar-free.
If you are unable to find a sugar-free blend of mulling spices, there lots of recipes out there for making your own … or you could simply put some of each of the above in the apple cider and taste/adjust. Who knows – it might be even better that way!
Side note: if you aren’t a fan of apple cider, or prefer a smooth creamy drink instead, try this sugar-free eggnog recipe!
Other Cooking Methods:
Not a fan of the crock pot, or simply want a different way to make this mulled apple cider? No worries, I got ya, boo! The notes section of this recipe describes how to make this cider on the stove top. While it will require a little more monitoring than the crock pot version, it will still be just as delicious.
I bet you could also make this mulled apple cider in the instant pot or another pressure cooker, but as I do not own one I was unable to test out that method for you. I’m sure it would greatly reduce the cook time, though. If you do try it, please come back and let us know how it turned out!
Refined Sugar-Free Strong Mulled Apple Cider
Equipment
- Crock pot
Ingredients
- 8 c water
- 10 cinnamon apple spice tea bags
- 2 apples (Pink Lady or Honeycrisp would work great)
- 2 oranges
- 3 tbsp mulling spices no sugar added
- 1 tbsp Pyure (the blend with erythritol and stevia)
Instructions
- Bring 8 c of water to a boil. Pour into crock pot.
- Add the tea bags; steep for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, slice the apples and oranges. No need to peel, but I did remove the seeds from the apples. You could do large wedges, half circles, or I did circles.
- Remove the tea bags from the water.
- Stir in the Pyure until dissolved, then add the apples, oranges, and mulling spices.
- Heat for at least two hours on high for the best flavors.
- Enjoy!
