Christian, wife, “hybrid” mama, I run the site All Behind A Smile to help others like me.
Gone are the 90-95% on plan days with Trim Healthy Mama, although I hope to “recover” them soon. I’m only 80% on plan with Trim Healthy Mama, and have been for a few months at this point (after a few years on plan).
Although I’m not proud of being someone who shares Trim Healthy recipes and is only 80% on plan, this is more about encouragement than anything else.
As you have probably guessed, some major events occurred to knock me from my (fairly) solid Trim Healthy lifestyle to something less … dedicated.
Although none of the above justify “falling off the wagon”, it is what it is. We are making the most of the situation, and other than being more off plan than in previous years, the same situation that creates a more off plan lifestyle is what has improved our futures immensely.
If you’ve been following All Behind A Smile for some time, you know that I suffer nausea on a regular basis, even prior to pregnancy … and that pregnancy just made the nausea that much worse (if you’d like to read more about this particular subject, see Morning Sickness and Trim Healthy Mama).
Other than pregnancy, the other two factors go together, so I paired them under one heading.
Moving into a pre-established household (I should say, a household that has also been established for many years) doesn’t mean I have to go off plan … but unless I want to cook separate meals most nights (allow me to assure you, I don’t), it requires more flexibility and energy than I find myself with.
Often I’ll skip the side dish that is not on plan, but sometimes the main dish is the issue … in which case I eat it and move on – with the goal of improving over time. This is not to be a permanent solution.
As for off-plan or not ideal purchases that are made for me, I know that the person making purchases has a heart of gold, and is trying to help. And truly, the purchases are often better than what the person would make otherwise … so while not fully embraced on plan, I eat the food, and enjoy.
All of this to say, if you are 80% on plan, you are still a Trim Healthy Mama. If you are 90-95% on plan, way to go!! And if you are just starting the plan and barely dipping a toe in the plan waters, you are still learning, still growing, still doing great.
The percentage on plan you are doesn’t define you, and you can change that number!!
