Bestsellers fill most to-be-read lists these days, while the hidden gems get ignored or pushed further down the list since they don’t receive the same recognition.
We are far more likely to pick up a book that we’ve heard rave reviews about, than to take a chance on a novel no one seems to realize exists.
In No Particular Order, the Books:
- Are You Seeing Me? by Darren Groth
- Reverie by Erin Hanson
- Lullaby Road by James Anderson
- Death in the Shadows by Paul McCusker
- How to Weep in Public: Feeble Offerings on Depression from One Who Knows by Jacqueline Novak
In this quite short list is a selection from mystery, to memoir – even poetry. Fiction and non-fiction, from depression to autism.
More Information:
First on my list, Are You Seeing Me?, tells the story of twins, Justine and Perry. Justine is the caregiver for Perry after their father lost the fight with cancer – and Perry suffers from autism. Surprisingly intense in some places yet heartwarming and sweet in others, Are You Seeing Me? gives Perry his own unique voice while Justine and Perry set out to create one last perfect memory.
Next is Reverie (The Poetic Underground #1). A collection of poetry, Reverie is great for fans of Milk and Honey. It’s a quick read, one which I read in one sitting, and covers a variety of topics in a modern style.
Last but not least is Death in the Shadows. A detective turned priest, Father Gilbert is not your typical clergyman. In a novel filled with visions and murder and an illegal sex trade, even a quiet seaside town has secrets.

In a world with more books than we will ever have the time to read, don’t miss the hidden gems while devouring the bestsellers.
